A forehead lift, also referred to as a “brow lift” is a surgical procedure designed to restore a more youthful look to the area above the eyes. The procedure corrects drooping brows and improves the horizontal lines and creases that are usually associated with age.
A forehead lift mostly targets the age bracket of 40 to 60 year olds, and is especially suited to help those tormented by frown lines or furrows due to strain or muscle activity. It is generally used to correct conditions, like low, heavy brow or furrowed lines just above the nose. Forehead lift is commonly performed in conjunction with a facelift/mid facelift or eyelid surgery.
For most patients, a coronal incision will do. The procedure involves making a headphone-like incision, starting at about ear level and running across the top of the forehead and down the other side of the head. Working through the incision, our experts carefully lift the skin of the forehead so that the underlying tissue can be removed and the muscles changed to meet the required specifications. During this procedure eyebrows are also elevated, while excess skin at the incision points is trimmed to help create a smoother, more young-looking appearance.
The incision is then closed with stitches or clips. Dressing and bandages are optional; however the doctor can insist on it if he feels you need it for healing.
The incision is commonly made behind the hairline to obscure visibility. In patients who are bald or losing hair, a scalp incision that follows the natural pattern of the skull bones is used.
The procedure has a down time of no more than one week. In fact, you should be able to shower and shampoo your hair within two days, or as soon as the bandage is removed.
